Beach Assemblage #5

This Assemblage includes three round raku fired orbs. Jinny worked from the inside out of each orb, carefully shaping a delightfully wonky form for each. 

Jinny Whitehead (nee Veronique Gobet) was born in 1952 in Calcutta, and raised in England and France. After working in CSIS and her international postings, Jinny and her husband left the foreign service in the 1990's and relocated to Vancouver, where Jinny joined the Potters' Group at the West End Community Centre, ultimately becoming President. Five members of that group banded together in 1996 to form the co-op "Studio 3.” 

Jinny took on the role of President of the BC Potters' Guild in 2005-2012, where she was instrumental in saving the Guild from fiscal collapse.  During her term, she organized exhibitions all over the province and headed up a project to retrieve, assess and safeguard historic materials relating to the origins and development of ceramics in BC.

In 2018, failing health caused Jinny to close down Studio 3 and that same year, the Guild's Gallery on Granville Island was forced to close for financial reasons.  The last exhibition held by the Gallery was of Jinny's work, fittingly title "The Guiding Hand".  Jinny donated this collection of her work to us to fundraise for CCBC

Jinny passed away September 25, 2025
