sterling silver
These studs are made out of 20 gage silver sheeting using a saw and a metal hammer for texturizing. I then dome them using a dapping block, solder on posts and polish and file by hand to finish.
Making wearable art comes out of a desire of creating beautiful things and the joy of connecting with people. The artist uses quality sterling silver and is always inspired by the natural beauty, colours and textures of Beautiful British Columbia, as well as the city of Vancouver, where she lives. She is mostly attracted to symbols and simpler, geometric forms like the perfect shape of a circle that can have added beauty by being broken and formed into a new organic shape, just as it happens in nature.
Marian De Gier is an Emily Carr University of Art & Design graduate. After several different creative career pursuits, she decided trying her hand at silversmithing and is loving it. When her first chickadee left the nest, she took over the room and transformed it into a home studio. When neighbours started wanting to buy her creations, she decided to give it a go, and Fire & Grace Silverworks was born.
Marian has been a designer, art director, and photographer at various design firms both in Vancouver, Canada, and the Netherlands. Her work has been published in both countries.
Marian loves art, family, coffee, books, rainy days, and learning odd and new things.
