This Goblet is finished with food safe Linseed Oil & Beeswax.

This is a Wedding Goblet and was turned from a piece of figured Maple with two captive rings turned directly on the stem and a textured rim.

Historical significance:
The use of wooden Wedding Goblets is deep rooted in medieval history and dates back to a Celtic tradition of the 17th Century. Each goblet has to be made from one piece of wood with two unbroken rings made right on the stem where they will remain forever as a symbol of love and commitment.
The goblets Allan Cusworth makes follow this ancient tradition from a single block of seasoned wood.

Care Instructions:
When using this goblet, it is suggested only using white wine, or clear beverages to avoid staining. If necessary, hand wash only; wipe it off and leave it to air dry. Please do not soak it or put it in the dishwasher. It should be handled with care and protected from moisture and direct sunlight.

Allan Cusworth's first exposure to woodturning was in high school in Cobourg, Ontario, but it wasn't until moving to British Columbia in the early 1990s that Allan took a serious interest in the craft. He currently belongs to two local woodturners’ guilds as well as the American Association of Woodturners. He is recognized for his platters, bowls, and engraved pens, as well as his unique hollow vessels and wedding goblets. He takes specific interest in fine buffing his pieces to create a shiny finish.

Allan's goal is to make each piece of work unique by embellishing wood grain patterns and natural wood colouration. His platters and bowls are generally finished with food-safe materials and are meant to be used. However, many become display pieces when purchased by his international customers. His style is constantly changing as he looks for that special piece of wood he can transform into a beautiful piece of functional art.
