High moisture and humidity cause paper to expand and contract, which leads to warping or buckling. Do not expose to water or direct sunlight.
This sculptural paper collage is inspired by Jan's view overlooking English Bay from her studio in Vancouver. Coloured with a range of yellow and orange hues with greys for the mountains.
Each collage is based on a theme and special papers are made and used for each particular collage with sculpted, plain, textured or dyed sheets. The paper is made from a large selection of dried flower petals, seeds, and other plant parts provide the textural elements when they are added to the sheets to make the paper needed for different uses. Over time I have discovered the paper I make from plants is very strong and resilient and will last for many years. Using only fresh and dried plant material to make the paper seems to be the secret.
In 1983, after living and working for eighteen years as a potter in Terrace, BC, Jan Macleod came to Vancouver and set up a paper-making studio in the downtown core. Since then, she has worked daily at Plant Papers, making and developing her own style of decorative paper made entirely from plants and blossoms. Custom work has always been an interest. Jan has had the opportunity to work on some large projects, spending several months creating one-of-a-kind site-specific artworks for hotels such as the Waterfront Hotel in Vancouver and the Delta Suites Hotel in Whistler. From the start, Jan has offered a line of cards, books, and small items to retailers, evolving to a large selection in a variety of dyed and natural papers, with an emphasis on theme cards.
