maple wood and gold-plated bail and finial

Each maple cone was turned on a woodturning lathe and polished to a satin finish.

Allan's first exposure to woodturning was in high school in Cobourg, Ontario, but it was not until after moving to British Columbia in the early 1990s that Allan took a serious interest in the craft. He currently belongs to two local woodturners' guilds as well as the American Association of Woodturners. Allan has also written several woodturning articles which have been published in Canadian Woodworking & Home Improvement Magazine in Ontario.

Allan has studied his craft with many world class turners, at seminars, demonstrations, and symposiums. He is recognized for his platters, bowls, engraved pens, and unique hollow vessels. He also creates specialized items like goblets, with captive rings turned on the stem, for weddings, anniversaries and other special occasions. He has recently expanded his creative instinct to fine jewellery.

Allan's work is currently on display in galleries in LaConner, WA; Whistler, BC; and Granville Island in Vancouver, BC. He has also participated in various wood art exhibitions in Langley, New Westminster, Maple Ridge, Port Moody, and Surrey. His style is constantly changing as he looks for that special piece of wood Mother Nature has created for him to transform into a beautiful piece of functional art.
