sterling silver
This piece presents a refined interpretation of the classic hoop earring, designed to sit close to the ear. Each form was initially sculpted in wax and subsequently cast in sterling silver using the lost-wax casting process. The resulting organic contours reference fluid motion, with subtle variations in surface and profile that evoke the transitional space between waves. Following casting, posts were soldered to the reverse of each hoop, and the earrings are secured with standard butterfly backs.
Jessica Milum is a jewellery artist working primarily in sterling silver, using a mix of hand fabrication and lost-wax casting. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce (2023) from the University of Victoria and completed a Jewellery Design Certificate at Whitecliffe College of Arts & Design in Auckland, New Zealand (2025). She is currently an artist in residence with Malaspina Printmakers, in collaboration with the Vancouver Metal Arts Association.
Jessica's practice is rooted in traditional metalsmithing techniques and guided by an ongoing interest in movement, restraint, and subtle irregularity. Through a process-led approach to making, her work explores quiet shifts in form, softness within structure, and pieces that feel lived-in rather than fixed. Alongside her studio practice, she is passionate about creating welcoming entry points into jewellery-making through accessible workshops and shared creative spaces.
