hand-painted ceramic, 18K gold-plated brass, hypoallergenic earring posts (gold-plated silver)
Rui Gong created this collection for the 2025 CCBC Earring Show, drawing inspiration from the meditative beauty of nature while weaving in her personal memories and traditional ceramic artistry. Each pair is lovingly crafted from fine porcelain, combining underglaze and overglaze painting techniques with delicate gold detailing. The lotus holds deep personal significance for Rui, evoking warm childhood memories of growing up in a southeastern city in China. Beyond nostalgia, it symbolizes resilience, purity, and elegance as it rises untainted from the mud. The "Lotus Bloom" earrings feature a textured cobalt surface with gold-painted lotus motifs, representing spiritual awakening and tranquility. The "Mystic Flow" earrings offer an abstract interpretation, serving as a sister piece to Lotus Bloom. The deep blue ovals, framed by a hand-applied gold border, embody the fluidity of water and the gentle passage of time. Their simplicity is balanced by luminous gold accents, bringing warmth and harmony to the design. "Whispering Petals" is inspired by Rui's grandfather and the orchid's symbolic meanings of integrity and elegance. The floral motifs are painted in the style of traditional Chinese ink painting, blending seamlessly with the Blue and White Porcelain aesthetic - a technique with over a thousand years of history. This piece represents the fusion of past and present, honoring treasured memories while embracing new journeys. Each pair is made with hand-painted ceramic, 18K gold-plated brass, and hypoallergenic earring posts. Through a fusion of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary aesthetics, Rui's work transforms ceramic jewellery into meaningful, wearable art.
