Maya Mars (she/her) is a Serbian-Canadian silversmith based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her creative journey is an ongoing path of experimentation. From painting, designing, and education in goldsmithing, she needs to be working with her hands. Wherever she goes, creativity must thrive with her.
Silversmithing and metal forming have been a way of creating an outlet for design for Maya. Testing out different ways metal can be worn in different shapes and forms, her work explores movement and the nature of wearing art. Inspiration stems from Gothic architecture and translating wrought ironwork designs into fine jewellery. She tries to articulate designs in ways that metal inspires from her, as well as adding a touch of freedom to it.
Entering the metalwork discipline in 2023, Maya is learning new skills and techniques every day working alongside jewellers. She has always surrounded herself with art and grew up with artists. Every day life gets her inspired to always make more, wherever it takes her.
