sterling silver and glass

For Gabriela Sierra Torres, contemporary jewellery is a space where materials, shapes, and colours come together in unexpected ways. She explores the contrasts between transparency and solidity, softness and rigidity, embracing the dialogue between elements that might not traditionally belong together. Working primarily with sterling silver and glass, she is fascinated by how these materials interact - how light moves through them, how they reflect and transform each other. She creates bold, statement pieces that express strength and individuality, challenging conventional notions of adornment through innovative material combinations and meticulous craftsmanship.

Gabriela Sierra Torres is a contemporary jewellery artist originally from Querétaro, Mexico, now based in Montreal, Canada. With a background in Industrial Design and a Master's in Packaging Management, she refined her metalwork and design skills at Alchimia Contemporary School in Florence, Italy. Her work explores the interplay of transparency, movement, and material contrast, often incorporating glass and sterling silver into bold, architectural compositions. In 2021, she founded her jewellery brand, focusing on creating pieces that blend structure with organic fluidity. Her designs reflect a fascination with opposing forces - rigidity and softness, lightness and weight, translating them into wearable art. Gabriela's approach is deeply influenced by urban furniture design, a field she worked in before transitioning fully into jewellery. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including her selection for the Joy Exhibition, where her pieces were showcased across multiple European galleries. She was also part of Earrings Galore 2023, a curated showcase celebrating innovative earring designs. Additionally, one of her earring designs was featured in Nicolás Estrada’s book New Earrings, a publication highlighting contemporary approaches to earring design. Her jewellery was also included in the "Paint Flowers So That They Will Not Die" exhibition, an artistic tribute to Frida Kahlo's legacy. With an emphasis on craftsmanship, each of Gabriela's pieces is entirely handmade, combining traditional metalsmithing techniques with experimental compositions. She continues to push the boundaries of contemporary jewellery, crafting pieces that invite interaction and reinterpret the notion of adornment as a personal, expressive statement.
