Lisa McKenna, the founder of Oonagh Studios, and the artist behind the creations, has always been fascinated with how fashion can elevate and transcend an individual. Her whole life she has believed a pair of earrings can change your attitude, and uplift your style. Her preference to work with old pressed metals came about while working as an antique seller. Too often, there would be a broken piece of hardware that Lisa could see had beauty that cannot be found in anything new. Her ability to see radiance in things that would otherwise be thrown away is what sets Lisa apart from other creators in the industry. She takes pride in her pieces being truly one of a kind. No 2 pairs of earrings that come from Oonagh Studios are the same, which makes her art so easily loved by many people of all different backgrounds. Lisa believes art is a lifestyle, as is fashion, and perseveres in bringing them together. Her jewellery will make you feel unique in the most beautiful ways. She creates art within stones, gems, and metal work the same way a painter uses a brush on canvas, or sculptures fingers form stunning statues. The love Lisa has for the arts, as well as fashion, translates seamlessly into all the pieces she creates. So whether you're exploring a vineyard in Italy, or taking in the sounds of New York City, Oonagh Studios has a piece that will speak to anyone, anytime, anywhere.
Lisa McKenna has been mostly self-taught in her art. She took a sheet metal course in her late 30's, which is where her visions for alternating metal started. Between her knowledge of antiques, dealing in antique markets, and collecting pieces for her storefront, she has been able to bring the two together to create art that feeds her soul. Being shown beauty in old objects was taught to her at a young age. Lisa has fond memories of attending antique auctions with her mother and father. The lessons she learned from her parents, as well as vendors in the industry, snowballed her love for patinas and objet d'art. Finding beauty in things that can be easily overlooked is where she takes such pride in her work. In sheet metal, learning the different kinds of metal and how to work with them piqued her curiosity in how to translate that into jewellery. Figuring out how to cut, bend and polish different types of metal was something Lisa found to be very intriguing.
