arbutus wood
These beautifully crafted wooden knives are handmade, which means each piece is unique in its colour and texture. Great for butter, soft cheeses, and more! All the utensils have a natural, food-safe wood finish.
Care instructions: wash and dry after each use. Apply walnut or mineral oil often. To restore, sand with extra fine sandpaper, then add oil.
*Please note that each knife will have variation in shape & colour, but all are finely crafted out of arbutus wood.
Ron Bazar was born in Montreal. He first came to Cortes Island in 1984 and moved there full-time in 1998. Ron has had a varied career as an entrepreneur, business consultant, writer, and publisher. He has been a hobby wood turner on and off since he was 12, making bowls, lamps, and incense holders. It was while gathering Arbutus wood for a turning project that the idea for the Arbutus Kitchen Collection was born. Ron discovered that the rough pieces of wood were so gorgeous that instead of using the wood as kindling, he made his first letter opener as a gift for his mother. Since then, Ron has been selling his works in many galleries in Vancouver, Victoria, and Banff. Ron uses only Arbutus wood for his kitchen collection because of its spectacular array of grain colours. Ron selects wood based on the colour and texture. Each piece is finished with food-safe walnut oil, which enriches the grain.
