stained glass, argentium silver
A giant magnifying glass is used to focus sunlight to create a hot spot with temperatures up to 3,000°F. Recycled bottles, broken antique plates, and stained glass are melted into flowing droplets, which are then wrapped in recycled Argentium silver wire and attached to the delicate chain. The earwires are also of Argentium silver, shaped and hammered by hand.
Though artistic from a young age, Tawny Reynolds had her sights set on a career in science, not art. But science and art are not mutually exclusive. She developed skills in scientific illustration and sculpting, building museum displays and painting, experimenting to see how her cloudy conceptual visions could be brought to physical form. And sometimes plans change...
Tawny founded Sundrop Jewelry in 2005, showcasing her love of vibrant, glowing colours, natural forms, and care for the environment. Tawny continues to hand craft each elegant glass teardrop in her backyard in Berkeley. Focusing California sunshine with the help of a giant magnifying glass to melt recycled bottles and stained glass, she creates elegant adornment for women who love colour and the Earth.
