Bubble Bait
10 x 3.5 x 1.7 cm
sterling silver wire, plastic bubble wrap, plastic beads
These "Bubble Bait" earrings are inspired by the plastics in the ocean. Sea creatures often mistake plastic waste as food, causing them to suffocate or inhale toxins of chemicals. The shine of the hammered texture on the wire and the sparkle of the bubble wrap and beads is meant to act as bait for the fish, like a fishing lure. This could also be bait for us humans because of the texture and sound the plastic makes, it lures us to touch and pop the bubble wrap.
Born and raised in Vancouver, British Columbia, Alex has grown up around art and nature all her life. At 19 years old, she has started her jewellery journey in October 2024 at LaSalle College Vancouver and is loving her creative freedom in forms of metal art.
