applique, hand and machine stitching, paint & hand-dyed edging
"Birthday Window" is one of a series of small, odd little espressive studies that are a very spontaneous applique combination of hand-dyed cloth, paint and cut pieces of portraiture. There is a wonky kind of fun to these peices, that are meant to be enjoyed with little hidden meanings.
Eleanor works in the textile arts field and has been involved with sewing and embroidery for most of her life in some way or another. She says she actually thinks in cloth and thread combinations as they relate to drawing. For a number of years Eleanor has been doing sewing machine embroidery, and has recently been developing hand embroidery techniques to create large scale portraits. She has a BFA from the University of Manitoba, and has exhibited work as a drawer, painter, and textile artist across Canada and the UK. Teaching is also an essential part of her creative purpose.
