ceramic with pine needle weaving

A decorative vase that speaks to collaboration, as it’s made by the hands of two sisters and from two different materials. The vessel highlights contemporary craft but also, through the artist statement, seeks to draw attention to the changing conditions of our climate.

The Earth and Pine collection is a collaboration between two artists and sisters, Linda Doherty (ceramics) and Lynnett Gullackson (basket weaving). The vessels demonstrate harmony between the contrasting materials and explores the connection between the sisters and the interdependency of the Pine Trees, Earth, and Man. Both Linda and Lynnette have witnessed the demise of the Ponderosa Pine trees from the Mountain Beetle infestation, and the contrast between the permanence of ceramic pottery and the fragility of the pine needles becomes more evident as the Ponderosa Pine Trees are being destroyed.

"I love that this is a collaboration between two sisters, one of them working on the pottery, the other doing the weaving."
