found wings, silver, resin

A free cast of resin on the wings and then cut out when soft. hand formed silver.

Janette and Judy explore their view of the world through the duality of being twins. Playing around with the concept of how things observed form a distance look similar such as a pair of earrings but as you get closer or more familiar, that then quirks and the differences become apparent.

A friend gave them a pair of butterfly wings and asked what they could do with them. They thought about this for several years until they came up with the idea of casting the wings in resin and then realised that they did not have to stop at the one creation. The butterflies are found by looking along roads and friends give them butterfly wings. Flowers were a wonderful addition to the creativity available to Janette and Judy.

It was while attending an art show where many of the participants made earrings, that while charming, were set with truly ugly findings and it was espying this that set them on the path of hand made cold forged silver ear-hooks. Arts and Crafts Movement plays a large part in the creation of the ear-hooks along with historical influences as Janette and Judy belong to the Society for Creative Anachronism.

Materials such as wings, flowers and in one instance bacon, pearls and such like, along with Janette's enameling, in which her interest was sparked by finding an old kiln given to her when she was 18, are but a small breadth of the materials available to them.

Janette and Judy are self-taught in the art of making adornment but wish to acknowledge the kindness of strangers.
