Venn

sold out!
$121.00
By Sally Prangley

3.5 x 1.3 x 1.5 cm

Mat board, unryu/lamali/tissue papers, hammered annealed steel

These earrings have three style variations, each using different colours.

The artist has long been fascinated by the concept of Venn Diagrams, since first learning of them as a child. As an artist, when two different colors overlap, a new shade results. This is exactly what happens in Venn Earrings. Subtle new shades occur where the paper of two geometric shapes overlap. Venn Earrings are hollow so are lightweight to wear, and they rotate on their hammered annealed steel triangles so any side can face front. The earrings are sealed for protection and use.

Sally has drawn, painted, and created mixed media art all her life and is largely self-taught. She majored in psychology/minored in art history and literature at Northwestern University (1980) and received her MBA in marketing from the George Washington University (1983). After working in advertising and marketing in NYC and Boston for several years, Sally left corporate business to be a professional artist in1986. Her early work was in wood, mixed media, and found furniture/objects.

After learning traditional basket-making at the Creative Arts Workshop in New Haven, CT, Sally transitioned to wirework around 2000, making wire basketry and jewelry. For the past ten years, she has focussed on wire + paper, creating basketry, boxes, and jewelry.

Sally has been an art docent and taught mixed media and wire workshops extensively in public schools, summer camps, museums, and in her studio since returning to the Seattle area in 1995. She sells her work in galleries and museum stores across the United States.
