Silver Wire, Beads Natural Stone Aventurine
Earrings inspired by two algae found in the ocean: Sargassum and Turbinaria. Due to global warming and polluted ocean, Sargassum algae grows faster than usual, kills ocean habitats and attracts insects and bacteria, which makes it potentially dangerous to anyone walking on it with an open cut on foot. In contrast to Sargassum, Turbinate can cure diabetes and helps to prevent many other diseases. These earrings depict the result of human actions. Even though they are from one algae family, one can kill you, and another save you.
Every choice has consequences, and these earrings serve as a reminder about them. Both earrings are hand-woven on a silver wire base. The beads were added to explore the colour of the ocean on the human body. One of the earrings was patinated to create depth, visual weight and contrast. The forms are directly influenced by Sargassum and Turbinaria.
