Michelle Miller's work is inspired from the world around her; in design, art, nature, fashion and the industrial world. She loves to explore all sorts of materials and to utilize them surprising ways. A love of line, colour and form are always at the base of her work.
Currently she is inspired by the intersection of the man made world in the natural world. Examples are; bubbles made created from objects in a frozen river, tire tracks on the snowy road, trail marks in the woods. She is often thinking about the connections that her work has on the greater public. There is a fasciation and a love to make that connection with perfect strangers. In our world that seems so disconnected from each other, it is her hope to keep us connected. Her work often is a play on all sorts and innovative ways of connecting her materials with the ideas of "connecting". These ideas are what fuel her work and are the reason she creates.
Miller uses, an assortment of wire, shock core, silicone tubing, a variety of beads, reclaimed leather, cable cord, rivets and other materials to create her sculptural jewellery. She uses simple tools to create her works. Miller is not a metal smith she uses pliers, riveting tools, leather punch, exacto knives, awl and her bare hands.
