Gold plate silver chain, surgical steel post and back, silver solder
These earrings are made with dead stock chain, which I buy in batches and often only have a limited amount of any given style. The chain is gold plated silver, when the piece is soldered together the heat burns off the gold plate and leaves the silver exposed. I dip the earrings in liver of sulphur then buff them to give them a darker, and more unified finish.
They are lightweight for their size, and are completely handmade by me in my studio. They are part of an ongoing series exploring rigidity versus movement.
Because of the nature of the chain and the making process each pair is unique. With the snake chains I follow their natural curves to create the shapes in the earrings.
