flameworked glass beads are individually handmade using multiple layers of transparent and opal soda lime glass, silver glass, hand-pulled floral murrine; kiln annealed for strength and durability, sterling silver
Effetre (Italy), Reichenbach (Germany), and Double Helix (USA) glass were used to make the flameworked glass beads, including the glass flowers (floral murrine) inside the beads which were individually cut from hand-pulled glass cane. Timing, flame chemistry and the artist's hands ensure that no two beads are ever exactly the same.
The 23.5K gold foil accents were applied to the surface of the silver earrings using the Keum-Boo technique of bonding through heat and burnishing.
These gold accents are delicate and easily scratched. A soft cleaning cloth is all that is needed to gently clean the earrings. The ear wires are made from fine silver (0.999) and are more pliable than sterling silver but will not tarnish. Handle carefully and they will keep their shape.
