repurposed plastic spoons, acrylic paint, silver wire
A gorgeous pair of earrings made with recycled material and painted over with acrylics using a mix of warm colours and finished off with silver wire, this product was meticulously handmade and perfect for vacation!
Inspired by the grace and elegance of a lily, "Melted Lilies of the Plastic" also came with an understanding that there was a need to create a piece that illustrates nature combined with repurposed sustainability. Commonly today our households are filled with materials that are difficult to recycle, or are single time use. A big example being a plastic spoon; possibly given too many when ordering take out, plastic spoons find themselves haunting the drawers of many households. The spoon's natural shape with a little torching/melting manipulation formed delightful petals. After a patient process of creating and welding them together with their own melted plastic the lily was brought to life. Lastly, finished with a painted coating purposefully made to look as if the flower was "melting" to further illustrate the technique of repurposing the plastic spoons. There is also quite the statement to be made on how this piece juxtaposes the duality of the beauty of nature and the global destruction brought on by the surplus of plastic.
