Paper Mache
Sustainable art materials are materials that are made from environmentally friendly sources and produced in a way that minimizes harm to the environment. These materials can include things like recycled paper, plant-based inks and dyes, and natural fibres such as cotton or hemp. Additionally, sustainable art materials may be designed to be biodegradable or compostable, and not to contain toxic chemicals. They help to reduce the environmental impact of the art-making process and can help support other environmental causes as well.
Avise is a brand founded in Vancouver in 2020 by Mahnaz, an Iranian immigrant with a background in art and antique restoration. The brand is focused on using recycled materials, such as paper, to create unique, sustainable jewelry and accessories, while also drawing inspiration from traditional motifs and techniques from both Eastern and Western cultures. Mahnaz's background and experience in the restoration of historical antiques have likely influenced her decision to use recycled materials in her art, giving new life to these materials and promoting sustainability.
Avise combines a passion for art and heritage preservation with a commitment to sustainability. Avise's earrings were made by hand with paper mache and old Persian art known as Laki. Materials used include waste papers, glue, and acrylic paint to create Avise's earrings.
