PA12 White Nylon, Hand Dyed, Sterling Silver Findings
Inspired by the crystals and minerals where she lives in Cornwall, England, CarIy is interested in how they are created, their structures, and shapes that are formed within them. She uses the molecular structure of the crystal or mineral to form the basis of her designs, she then translates the mathematical formulas and geometric forms from her initial sketches over time before recreating the sketch using CAD.
Once the design has been completed to the desired requirements, Carly 3D prints each piece in white nylon. Exploring the use of science and digital technology in this way has been integral to her work and allows her to explore and create new, innovative designs.
Each print is then hand dyed in range of colours, encapsulating the intricate details and structures of the design. Silver is incorporated to create the ear hooks and pins, producing the final outcome - encapsulating her journey as a jeweller from where she initially started to where she is now. Carly wants create discussions around her work, enabling others to be open to new concepts of design, combining art and science together and show how these can evolve together.
