Even though the filigree wire is soldered into place and secure they are still delicate. Filigree jewellery should not be swam in, showered in, slept in, or worn while doing hard labour. Because of the solder used to solder the filigree wires in place the metal can turn blue/green when it comes in frequent contact with water because of the chlorine. If this happens the piece will need to be cleaned.
Filigree is not a technique that you can just jump into, preparations start even before the initial design. Everything depends on that initial design: the ratio of materials, wire dimensions for the frame, even the filigree wire its self. The assembly of pieces is a complex process, like a puzzle, thou enjoyable, it is a puzzle. This technique, like many, takes years to master but Makayla enjoys the challenges that filigree presents.
Filigree was meant for nobility, an item worn solely for social events, political rallies, and tea parties. Like many trades of the past, it faced the overwhelming promise of manufacturing but faded from history, like those princess tea parties. Makayla wishes to revive filigree, to remind the world of the intricate beauty within it's complex construction, and to modernize it, to help evolve the art form back to the high status that it deserves.
For Makayla filigree is a joy, and dare say even therapeutic for her, she wants to share that with everyone. Take it from her, any challenge can be concurred.
