Ekaterina Ziborova of Catherine Zibo Art & Bijoux grew up in a dynamic and creative family that encouraged her artistic endeavors. She has spent six years in a school of fine arts, two years in an art history university program, and obtained her bachelor's degree in management. Her life in Saint-Petersburg and its cultural treasure troves contributed to her deep emotional connection with the heritage of Eastern and Western Europe alike.
In 2015, Ekaterina left Russia to settle down in Montreal, Quebec. Here she discovered the world of contemporary jewellery art. She has completed several courses at École de joaillerie de Montréal as a student of a renowned Canadian artist Aurélie Guillaume, and then began her full-time, three-year professional training program, during which she has received the 1st and the 2nd year Excellence Awards and an Excellence Award in jewellery drawing.
For Ekaterina, studio jewelry is wearable art, and therefore, art with which one can form the most intimate relationship. She creates one-of-a-kind and handcrafted small series jewelry. The designs are stemming from her love for the fine and applied arts, poetry and vibrant urban environments. She takes pride in her personal library in four languages, focused on art, archaeology, jewelry and fashion, and enjoys exploring the museum collections in different countries as well.
In jewellery Ekaterina values expertise, independence, slow art, and most of all, meaning and purpose of each piece that go far beyond esthetic or monetary value. She feels the need to translate the artistic and artisanal legacy of the European continent into the language of the twenty-first century. Respect for the ancestral know-how and imagery goes hand in hand with a contemporary vision of jewelry, while the passion for art is shared as a very personal experience.
