handmade felt, oyster shells
This beautiful sculpture is inspired by, and will remind you of, the natural beauty of the land and ocean that surrounds us. Makes for an excellent gift or can become a centre piece in your own home.
After receiving a business degree from Ryerson University in 1988 and working in the Hospitality industry for several years, Monica discovered her passion for fibre arts. Starting in 1991, she studied quilting, fabric dyeing, hand and machine stitchery and surface design with a variety of international teachers. Monica taught fabric arts in Vancouver and on the North Shore from 1995 to 2003. She has worked with handmade felt since 2001, developing a strong foundation of skills in her exploration of felt as a medium for sculptural pieces, functional and wearable art. She is a member of the Surface Design Association and the Southern Gulf Islands Arts Council. Monica's work had been accepted into both juried and invitational shows, including the Sidney and Sooke Fine Arts shows and Canadian Felt Week. She is a founding member of the Pender Islands Artisan Cooperative and its artist-run Red Tree Gallery.
