Stefanie began her exploration of metal at the Kootenay School of the Arts in 2003. Drawn to the challenge of working with an industrial material, she delved into the study of lost wax casting, hot forging steel, and welding. Upon receiving her Diploma in Art, Craft, and Design in 2006, Stefanie sought to further her skills by working as a blacksmith in Southern Spain. There she participated in large scale architectural projects, such as gates and railings, using traditional iron working techniques. At her studio in Vancouver, BC, Stefanie continues to use an anvil and forge for the creation of art. Working in steel, stainless steel, copper, and bronze, she fuses classical craftsmanship with modern design. Currently Stefanie divides her practice between decorative flatware, jewellery, and sculpture.
