Sterling Silver, Lapis Lazuli
There is a quality to negative space and pattern that can be explored when shaping silver. The repetition of line creates an enclosed form which becomes an expression of control, of capture and imprisonment. Despite the beauty of the overall shape, there is a tension with the entrapment of the spheres that cannot be ignored. Each line becomes a bar, intentionally placed that reinforces the effort put into making the cage. Each line is repeated 100 times to form the prison, reminding us of the labour. We see the enclosed space, separated by these thin bars, which, when viewed as a whole become inescapable. All work is formed by hand, constructed of sterling silver with lapis and amethyst spheres.
