He grew up in the Abbotsford area and was able to work with a local potter, Herman Venema, who encouraged his interest. Dave's training took him to Georgian College in Ontario where he studied with a British potter, Roger Kerslake. After art school, he returned to BC and made pots full time for a number of years. While his kids were growing up he worked at Greenbarn Potters Supply for 20 years.
