Solid Canadian Black Walnut, traditional Danish cord.
Approximately 36" L x 18"W x 18" H
Mortise and tenon joinery with a draw bore pin and a traditional danish weave that uses a cow hitch knot, as opposed to upholstry nails. There is no metal in any of my pieces.
The Danish Weave Bench came about because I have always wanted to explore a danish weave. It’s a mid-century modern technique that I wanted to incorporate into some of my pieces.
I wanted the frame of the bench to enhance the woven seat. I incorporated a reverse taper on the legs, thick at the bottom, thin at the top. Rather than a traditional
While investigating styles of weaves I found a way to accomplish the weave that did not use any metal L nails. This system incorporates cow hitch knot. This weave is true to my style of building, I use traditional wooden joinery and avoid the use metal fasteners whenever possible in my work.
Teaching myself how to weave was a lot of fun, it is very rhythmic and meditative I could lose myself to the routine quite easily
Made from Canadian Black Walnut, the seat is traditional Danish cord with a two part wrap weave.
