She has been living in Vancouver since 2011, and is one of many artists who have studio space at the Mergatriod building in East Vancouver. Each year the building has an annual Open Studio during the Eastside Culture Crawl. She studied ceramics extensively in Japan and Canada. Upon arrival in Vancouver, she enrolled in the Fine Arts program at Langara College. Then she transferred to Emily Carr University of Art and Design and received a BFA in 2006. On top of her studies, she worked as a glaze technician at a pottery studio and produced ceramic work for galleries and craft shows around Vancouver. In 2008, she took a hiatus from pottery making and focused on raising her children. Once her second son entered elementary school in 2014, she made a fresh start with a new body of work, the porcelain series. She also participates in community firings at the Shadbolt Centre in Burnaby.  Her journey in clay began at a young age through community centre classes, leading to study at Sheridan College School of Crafts and Design, and later at the Nova Scotia College of Art. She has participated in artists’ residencies at Watershed in Maine, The Archie Bray Foundation in Montana, Talavera Uriarte in Puebla, Mexico, and The Banff Centre in Alberta. After many years of making functional ceramic wares and sculpture pieces in interior BC, now she lives in Vancouver. She enjoys trying different techniques, forms and glazes, as clay is a fascinating medium, which offers endless possibilities. Born and raised in Vancouver, Patola went on to earn a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art + Design with a Major in Illustration, graduating in 2016. Throughout their degree, Patola focused their work by combining their two passions for illustration and clay.
